Experiences that Clean the Planet

Many event planners have expressed the enormous challenge in understanding and producing digital events. Simultaneously, attendees are feeling the same amount of fatigue and inability to focus when solely learning, networking, and functioning in a digital world. The aspects often missed are engagement, connection, innovation, and impact.

But why not have them all?

I spoke with Sharona Shnayder, Co-Founder and CEO of Tuesdays for Trash. The Tuesdays for Trash organization and movement has inspired groups across the globe to join together and pick up trash in their local area. They utilize social media to increase awareness about the positive impact the members are having on the planet, while also offering opportunities for people to get to know one another.

Problem solved for event organizers everywhere!

"What started with just the two of us picking up trash turned into a global movement and global force for change."

As an event organizer that cares about sustainability and memorable experiences, this insightful interview gave me the motivation to continue to find ways to reward attendees and create ways to connect with the community.

By partnering with organizations like Tuesdays for Trash, you can leverage specific sustainable consumption and event planning processes that benefit the earth and give your attendees a more impactful event experience.

"Small acts of change, when multiplied, can transform the world."

Take a look at some considerations discussed below:

  1. Rethink: always find ways to modify and minimize your event's environmental impact.

  2. Refuse: critically evaluate if something adds value to the experience and truly needed to succeed.

  3. Reduce: consider your quantities and how you can strive to use less.

  4. Reuse/repair/recycle: find ways to make your event zero-waste by using compostable (recyclable at minimum) materials, while frequently reusing and repairing items.

  5. Reward: get the community involved and make the event more than a moment, but a memory.

Watch the full interview and if your event is scheduled on a Tuesday, you know what to do! You can offer audible-friendly sessions and content to encourage folks to leave their homes and step outside, while listening to your event. Educate attendees on the small modifications they can make that have a big impact on the environment. If deemed safe, make cleaning up your local area a networking opportunity for those participating at your event.

Join Tuesdays for Trash to take action today! Check out their upcoming Earth Month Events and don't forget to apply innovative event experiences to your next digital, in-person, or hybrid event to stand out above the rest. Your attendees and planet are counting on you!
